For the person at an access point who admits, searches, refuses or ejects people on the day. That covers public, staff, artist and pedestrian entry.

What you will be able to do

  • Confirm your point, the entry list in force and who you report to, and record anything missing.
  • Check a ticket, pass or name against the list, and hold anyone whose details do not match.
  • Ask for consent before a search, search only what the brief allows and record the answer.
  • Refuse entry, telling the person why, where they can wait and who they can speak to.
  • Walk a person out by a named route, and record who authorised the ejection and who went with them.

What the chapters cover

  • Taking the point and checking people as they arrive
  • Searching at the point
  • Refusing entry and ejecting someone already inside
  • A child, or a person who needs someone else's help
  • What you say and what you write down
  • When your point cannot work as briefed

Thirteen chapters follow the job in order, with thirteen quick-reference cards you may copy for use at your own event. Worked examples are composite illustrations, not accounts of real events.

Operational titles are for the person doing the job at one post, door, desk or location on the day. OTAS Live publishes 30 handbooks across ten areas of event work, each at Operational, Tactical and Strategic level.

UK law, nation by nation

Law as checked in September 2026, with England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland named separately.

Three levels in Security and Protective Operations

Each area of event work is covered at Operational, Tactical and Strategic level, so the series follows the job from the post on the ground to the decisions around it.
